THESE SHINING LIVES by Melanie Marnich chronicles the true, poignant story of four women in the 1920s–30s who work as dial painters for the Radium Dial Company in Illinois. Initially finding empowerment and friendship in their work together, the women fall ill from radiation poisoning after years of painting watch dials with radioactive paint. The plot focuses on their relationships, their subsequent battle against corporate giants, and their resilience in fighting for justice, workplace safety, and workers’ rights.
