About the Event
The 3rd Annual BoFish Triathlon presented by Happy Place will take place on May 22nd at beautiful Pinewood Lake in Trumbull, CT.
The BoFish Triathlon is the brainchild of Ironman finishers Ian Hall, George Bomann, and Andre Schunk. All three men live in the Trumbull area and have always felt that Pinewood Lake would be an ideal venue for a triathlon. “Pinewood Lake is a beautiful location, and we always thought how great it would be for the local multisport community to stage a triathlon there,” said Hall. Pinewood Lake members embraced the event first held in 2020 with 30 participants. In 2021 the field expanded to 50 racers, and 2022 will welcome 75 competitors to take on the serene, yet challenging course.
“After last year’s race, we were excited to continue as the host location to stage this unique, community-driven race,” said PLA Vice President Eric Kudey. “It gives us a great opportunity to showcase our beautiful lake and give our members, the town of Trumbull, and a tight racing community a unique local event to get excited about.” This year’s race will be capped at 75 participants in order to keep the BoFish’s unique personalized feel, and maintain a safe racing environment. “The event promises to be personalized, fun and memorable,” added Schunk. “We are really happy with the community support we have received. Our racers, who have ranged from first-timers to elite triathletes, are so excited to get back to normal competition, and we’re psyched to provide this celebration and a return to area racing.”
Race organizers are especially proud to once again partner with the Cardinal Shehan Center for the 3 rd Annual BoFish Triathlon. The Shehan Center is a non-profit organization located in Bridgeport, CT whose mission is to enrich lives through learning. They offer a variety of programs and activities that address the educational, recreational, cultural, and social needs of moderate and low-income families and young people. In addition to raising money for the Shehan Center’s recreational needs, the BoFish Triathlon community will continue to provide education on the sport. This year, the BoFish plan’s to welcome a few of the Shehan Center youth to participate in a fully-chaperoned BoFish Mini Triathlon.
“The Shehan Center team is so excited to be a part of the 3rd Annual BoFish Triathlon. We think it will be a great influence on our youth for staying active and fit,” states Lorraine Gibbons, The Cardinal Shehan Center’s Executive Director.
